Since I don't have Showtime, I was unfamiliar with the Showtime miniseries Sleeper Cell:American Terror before receiving the first six episodes of Season 2 on DVD to review. Thank goodness for review copies, because otherwise I would have missed out. While I'll be the first to admit that political, terrorist thrillers are not my favorite genre (Brother-In-Law is currently in Iraq, The Husband's Best Friend has recently returned from there), I found Sleeper Cell:American Terror both intriguing and terrifying.Michael Ealy plays Darwyn Al-Sayeed, an undercover Muslim FBI agent who infiltrated a terrorist cell in L.A. He's helped the U.S. authorities to take custody of terrorist Faris Al-Farik (played by the yummy and very talented Oded Fehr). Just when he thinks he's going to be able to settle down into a normal life with a new teaching job, his girlfriend and her son, Al-Sayeed gets sucked back into the dangerous, undercover life of a spy.
One of the frightening things (just like in real life) is that there's no way to tell who you can trust. *SPOILER ALERT!!* The French former skinhead is now an Islamic convert and a ruthless terrorist. The attractive European woman is a terrorist willing to die for the militant Islamic cause. The black Muslim terrorist is really an undercover FBI agent fighting to bring the Islamic terrorists down. It's impossible to tell the good guys from the bad guys, which raises the show's terror level several notches.
